In October, Home for Good and Safe Families launched The Voices of Supported Lodgings: Strong foundations for our future, their latest report advocating for more investment in supported lodgings.
Supported lodgings is a family-based provision for young people aged 16 or over, whereby they live in the home of a host family or individual. By putting relationships at its heart and facilitating a supported journey towards independence, it is a rapidly growing provision. Since 2021, the number of local authorities in England offering supported lodgings to young people has increased by 38%.
This report, and its launch event in Parliament, put the voices of young people with experience of living in supported accommodation, at the heart of the discussion.
You can read more about the report and its recommendations to the government and providers here.
Home for Good has championed supported lodgings consistently over the last five years, and has previously produced research that advocated for the Church to play a key role in enabling the expansion of supported lodgings by providing well-supported hosts into the system.
