You are invited to join us online on Monday 16th September for our next ChurchWorks Community event helping us think differently about poverty.

The cost of living crisis has been at the forefront of our minds for over a year. It has and continues to affect the most vulnerable in our society. According to the Joseph Rowntree Foundation poverty has increased ‘close to pre-pandemic levels’, with children being most impacted. The new Labour government has made some bold statements about reducing poverty, but they’ve also been clear that they don’t have much money to do anything. Sometimes thinking about poverty can feel quite… hopeless.

But what do we mean by poverty? Often our minds jump to financial or material resources, without considering social or relational poverty, which can be just as detrimental to our mental health and wellbeing.

The church is uniquely placed to address all different types of poverty; with innovative ideas from Community cafes and food banks, to debt support and local parenting groups. Understanding poverty differently and how we can tackle it innovatively is one key aim of this event.

But that’s not the only thing we want to explore together in this session. In what feels at times like a bleak social landscape, the church can and is bringing hope, joy and practical solutions to large scale issues. This is not just about understanding poverty - it’s about understanding the hope we have in God’s resources to tackle it, and how to hold onto that hope even in the midst of troubles.

Come and join us as we discuss some of the key poverty issues vulnerable people in our society are facing and how the church can be part of the solution.
